TF2 - Pulp Fiction - Machinima - Completed
After a bit of work, Greg, Jeff and I finally finished our machinima project, in which we recreated the ‘hamburger’ scene from pulp fiction using Team Fortress 2.
It was a bit difficult to try acting with game characters to get them to do everything we wanted, but in the end it really wasn’t too difficult.
The ability to have complete control over the environment you’re recording in, and what the actors do [without having to pay them, or worry about hurting them with misfired grenades] really outweighs any other small difficulties like a watermark at the top of the screen and trying to make the ‘actors’ lips sync up with different words than what they’re actually speaking.
The fact that we could move the cameras to exactly where we wanted with just the touch of a few keys, and have our actors and environments be set up just right was really great for something like this.
Of course it wasn’t perfect. The smaller guy couldn’t sit down and NOT be holding a weapon. It was hard to get lips to sync up more or less right. And it was hard to get certain actions to appear the same. The actors don’t exactly have the same mobility that real actors would, such as being able to flip a table over or sit down [at least in the case of this game]. Sure with more work most all of that could be fixed… but with the time constraints and resources we had, I think we did a pretty good job.
