I’m sorry, but no…
A little while ago a video got released showing a secret galaxy on Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii… it showcased the secret of DS connectivity that sent Mario to you DS handheld wirelessly. It continued to show, in Mario64 style graphics, extremely similar levels to that of Super Mario Galaxy in all the complexity, save for the graphics.
Many people, including myself were convinced this was true, due to the outstanding quality of the video itself… but in reality, it turns out it’s just that… a very high quality video, put together by a very talented video editor.
You can check the full story and video HERE
Also, the same guy who did this video apparently made a previous hoax about nintendo a few years ago about its new console that, at the time, was a big deal…

In an effort to help with the “fight against obesity” San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom submitted a proposal applying a financial deterrent to drinks with high fructose corn syrup.
Being none too happy with this, the American Beverage Association made a statement in response… and rather than trying to defend themselves in any way, shape or form, they took the lazy, yet more popular route of shifting the blame….
Can you guess who?
Who else, but video games….*sigh*

No, not with any of that math crap.
Apparently someone decided to go a little crazy with the level editor in Crysis and 3,000 barrels of oil.
The video really speaks for itself…. all I can say is… I wish my computer ran it…

You’ll have to excuse the slight rhyme in the title, but I’ve got some semi-interesting news.
Apparently AT&T has been working on mobile TV for its cell-phones. The original plan, almost a year ago, was announced to use “MediaFLO” technology which would provide multicast video clips, datacasting of realtime information and entertainment, and dedicated audio.
Apparently the technology will only use what it already does for Verizons Vcast TV service and offer such channels as Fox, NBC, ESPN, CBS, and MTV.
I wouldn’t really complain if I JUST had tv channels on my phone though… I guess it depends when they announce a price… and of course, how much….

Title: Super Intern
Short Description: Super Intern: College students always look for an edge
to “get their foot in the door.” To get their name out there as quickly as
possible to have a career when they graduate. One way to do this: get an
internship. However, that may not always be enough. There could be times when one is asked to do something they do not. On one hand it’s risky but it could reward them to automatically filling in a spot for a job. On the other hand, one could keep to their morals, but in the eyes of higher ups, not taking this risk could result in being a “game over.” Super Intern places you in different situations for different internships. There are several goals whether it’s, sneaking into another company and stealing ideas or going to an opposing team and stealing play calls. The choice is yours, even if the right choice might be the wrong.
Game Objects: There are several objects in this game. Being a “platformer,”
objects are developed for the main character, “The Intern.” While other objects will be used as football players in one levels case or opposing people from other businesses. Other objects being used are the blocks to act as “platforms” for the character to move around if jumping cannot get them to certain areas. Points will be rewarded for collecting the necessary items or even quick “power-ups” that can help you complete your objective.
Sounds: Many sounds will also be used. When the intern is hurt we will need a sound indicating damage as well as a “success” alert to let the player know
they’ve achieved the necessary goals. There will also be a “jump” sound that
comes on anytime the character is jumping to a platform and/or avoiding the
enemy.
Controls: The player can move around with the arrow keys with the up arrow
allowing the intern to jump. The spacebar is brought in if the character can
get items like cameras or guns to “shoot” certain objects.
Game Flow: The players score will start at 0 but will go up by a certain number
of points depending on what evidence is collected. There are also points given
out if the intern can “bribe” one of the enemies away or even takes them out to
complete their goal. There will be a high score but that comes with taking more
risks and getting more information.
Levels: There are three levels. One level will place the intern at a game
company but your boss wants you to find out some information from a rival
company. The more information you can get on these new games: the better.
Another level pits you with a football team however the Coach “Big Bill”
demands you to sneak onto the rivals’ side and steal some play calls and
signals. Finally there is another level that demands you dig up any dirt that
another head CEO can use to bring the president of its rival company down. The
difficulty will depend on you the player. To be successful, more risks need to
be taken. Get caught: and your player faces jail time. Come back empty: and you
lose your internship.

If you take a quick look at the link above, you’ll see the ad for Mountain Dew’s new ad campaign “Dew Mocracy.”
The idea is to get customers to go on the site and create a new name, flavor, and label for the next mountain dew [think Mountain Dew: Code Red].
I’d actually have to say I like the idea of it. The ad itself definitely reminded me of something like blade runner or Half Life 2, which I’m pretty sure it was supposed to give off the impression of anyways.
Bringing in the customer on it and giving them the reward of actually having a product of their creation mass produced is something to really raise awareness for their company name, and is great for publicity since I can’t remember any other company [especially a soft drink company] doing anything even close to it].

After a bit of work, Greg, Jeff and I finally finished our machinima project, in which we recreated the ‘hamburger’ scene from pulp fiction using Team Fortress 2.
It was a bit difficult to try acting with game characters to get them to do everything we wanted, but in the end it really wasn’t too difficult.
The ability to have complete control over the environment you’re recording in, and what the actors do [without having to pay them, or worry about hurting them with misfired grenades] really outweighs any other small difficulties like a watermark at the top of the screen and trying to make the ‘actors’ lips sync up with different words than what they’re actually speaking.
The fact that we could move the cameras to exactly where we wanted with just the touch of a few keys, and have our actors and environments be set up just right was really great for something like this.
Of course it wasn’t perfect. The smaller guy couldn’t sit down and NOT be holding a weapon. It was hard to get lips to sync up more or less right. And it was hard to get certain actions to appear the same. The actors don’t exactly have the same mobility that real actors would, such as being able to flip a table over or sit down [at least in the case of this game]. Sure with more work most all of that could be fixed… but with the time constraints and resources we had, I think we did a pretty good job.

The highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed for [PS3, Xbox360, and PC] has already been delayed til the 18th of this month. But now those of us who have PCs in place of an Xbox 360 or PS3 for our power hog system of choice have to wait until February until the release, while the console users still get it next week. So now I have to actually have patience [already waited since they announced the damn thing a few years ago] or shell out a couple hundred wing-wangs for one of the consoles [I’d have to lean towards 360 because of mass effect].

Last week Greg and I recreated the famous ‘hamburger’ scene from pulp fiction using garry’s mod in the half life 2 engine. However, it didn’t turn out QUITE as well as we wanted it to since we couldn’t get multiplayer to work [obviously a key element for machinima]. So we ended up having ragdoll npcs that we constantly changed the poses of with small actions from ourselves to make it look somewhat animated.
In our redo this week we’re going to try and focus on using Team Fortress 2 instead. We’ve gotten the multiplayer on there to work and it’ll be a safe bet for getting the characters to move and actually look like their speaking [with certain command keys that make the characters say unrelated things]. So with a little ‘acting’ and dubbing of voice and sound I think we should be good.
We’ve got a third member this time [Jeff], so hopefully that’ll make this whole thing a little easier since we need to use 3 computers for this thing [2 actors, and 1 camera].
Here’s the original scene on youtube:

Yesterday Nintendo released “The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass” for their DS handheld system here in the US.
The game’s art style uses that of “Wind Waker” the cell-shaded GameCube Zelda. The reasoning being not only that the DS hardware handles the cell-shading better for 3D objects, but also because it is a direct sequel to said GameCube game.
Players use the DS’s stylus to control the character around the screen, swing the sword, use items, navigate menus, etc.
Originally after hearing this, I wasn’t sure I could prefer this to good ol’ button pressing, but after trying it out for myself, I can say it works much better than I expected. So far I’ve only logged a couple of hours, but I’m enjoying being able to write notes on maps to remember things that I’d usually forget.
My biggest gripe is that when I try running really fast to the right [the further towards the edge of the screen you push, the faster you run…. also I’m left handed] my hand gets in the way a little and sometimes I miss things.
Overall though, it’s looking great, and is definitely the best looking ds game out right now, and if this game keeps it up, it might be one of the best games for the system.
